Development ThemesOur activities bring a range of benefits Following are the issues and our activities that involve Sustainability. Sustainability is core to the effectiveness of the community development work
we do and is also central to the way we continue to exist as an organisation.
While other theme sections cover our sustainability work in terms of community
and environment, here we focus on CUFA as an organisation; and
on our core goals of poverty reduction and credit union relationships with
their communities.
To ensure we have the fundraising capacity to meet the development needs of
communities in the Asia Pacific region, we need to remain relevant to existing
stakeholders, and visible to new audiences - with diverse and mutually beneficial
fundraising programs. In addition to our traditional and loyal credit union
supporters, the following activities
are
examples of our evolving engagement and fundraising portfolio:
| 2007 |
Sponsors were engaged, benefiting from
program exposure and relationship building with stakeholders,
while contributing to the operational
capacity of CUFA. |
| 2008 |
Credit union and other mutual sector staff were engaged as participants
and fundraisers in the Challenge Program series, creating primary
funding for the new Cambodia Children's Financial Literacy Program. |
| 2009 |
Challenge Program series expanded to support the Pacific
Credit Union Movement Development program, primarily funded by participant
fundraising
efforts of the CUFA Kokoda Challenge in April 2009. Village
Entrepreneur Initiative launched in May 2009, a program of ongoing
support and funding for individuals in the Asia Pacific region to establish
micro-enterprises as a means
to
potential
financial independence, through regular contribution by Community Investors
in Australia. |
Each program aims to increase awareness of and engagement in development,
as well as being valuable sources of funding for CUFA programs.
We also need to ensure our development goals effect poverty relief
and strengthen relationships between credit unions and their communities. A
strategy to identify those most in need in the areas where we deliver development
programs, and then evaluate and measure impacts and progress, is now being
designed and will be implemented in each development program soon.
