relieve poverty and create financial independence. While our programs are not
designed to primarily address environmental issues, environmental impacts of
our own operations, and ability to influence communities we serve, are major
considerations.
Subsistence cultures that rely on traditional agriculture, are often impacted
by poor yields resulting from unseasonal or changing weather conditions and
inefficient practice. CUFA programs aim to diversify income, or improve agricultural
productivity, by providing access to affordable financial services that enable
investment in equipment, or micro enterprise.
Indirectly, CUFA programs contribute to improving the environment by reducing
land stress.
In Australia, CUFA activity involves education and advocacy for credit unions
to reduce their environmental impact through reduction, optimisation and offsetting.
This is delivered through Development Education, Sustainability Roundtable
and CSR Toolkit.
