The Pacific Credit Union Technical Congress 2009 | Access Registration

The 2009 Pacific Credit Union Technical Congress will be held in Fiji from the 14 September – 17 September 2009. The Congress is a collaboration between the Credit Union Foundation Australia, the Fiji Savings & Credit Union League and the World Council of Credit Unions.

The purpose of the congress is to bring together credit union movements, their leagues, federations and government regulators from developing and developed nations in the Pacific region to share information and learn from each other. Attendees will include credit union volunteers, regulators and professionals from Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, Tonga, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, the United States and Vanuatu.

The 2008 Congress was one of the most successful for the credit union movement in the Pacific region. Last year topics included defining board member authority and responsibility, financial management strategies and evaluating policies and procedures.

While exploring the unique challenges of the Pacific credit union movement, participants will also benefit from a return to the basics of cooperative and financial principles. It is an important platform to provide emerging credit union movments a forum to acquire the necessary skills to efficiently serve the needs of their members.

In addition to nearly 200 people attending the Congress, there is also the ability to participate in WOCCU's Manager Certification Program, an intensive two-year course for credit union managers and aspiring managers.
“ Other participants of the congress would agree with me that the event was a great success,“ said Tom Ha'aute, Credit Union Services Manager for Central Bank of Solomon Islands. “We've broken the ice and have passed a milestone for the whole movement.“
